Yes, it’s been a few day’s but we have been traveling and the time in the hotel just seems to fly by. Not today though…we timed our last day stay so that we would be close to home. As such, we were able to get the place we are staying early in the afternoon instead of after 8 in the evening. So here I sit posting with the only sound coming from the crickets in the woods that surround us.
We are staying in a part of Ohio that I had previously not heard of called the Hocking Hills. It is a combination of state park, wildlife preserve, cultural area-the Adena people lived in this area thousands of years ago, a short get away from Columbus and there are several caves in the area. It’s also got the Hocking River running through it and today there were at least several hundred motorcyclists enjoying the cool back-roads of the region.
Seems that another of it’s attractions is the fact there are so many cabins and cottages that can be stayed in. A night-us-a week or extended vacation. In that regard it is much like the Gatlinburg Tn. area. The hills around here are steep making the roads appear at times to head straight up. All of them narrow and winding also. Even though the area boasts many attractions, and there are, it is surprisingly small. The drive through the center of it is no more the 20 or so miles. Tonight at least, this place is completely devoid of sounds other than those nature provides. A wonderful coating of icing on what has been a very enjoyable trip.
The cabin we got for the night is complete with satellite TV, wireless inter-net, hot tub, kitchen, living room with fireplace, two bedrooms and a screened in porch. And sitting in the middle of 110 acres just for this cabin alone. Talk about privacy…this is it.
Tomorrow it’s back to life as normal. And interestingly I look forward to it. To be home enjoying the fruits of our labors. It’s always nice to get away but home is really where the heart is. Even though I must admit, Becky and I both left a few pieces back in Maine. The draw of the ocean and of the new grand baby…tugging gently as it were.
As always keep a close eye on the Flickr photos and of course…I must be off.
