Old friends and Facebook…

I’ve had a Facebook account for a couple of years now. It’s an account generated on an impulse to be hip but not something given too much attention.

With the release of the new iPhone software and the subsequent apps that followed, one of the slickest apps has been the one for Facebook. Having a slick app compels a techie to frequently check it out to make sure one isn’t missing a cool feature. As a result the Facebook account has seen more activity in the last couple of months than in the previous year.

A couple of new friends have been added and today a very old friend showed up. An old high school friend that sadly went his way when I went mine some years ago.

In high school we spent most of our free time jamming together and dreaming of becoming rock stars. After graduation he persued college and I persued marriage. Our different paths were not at all due to any bad parting of the ways, just life pulling us in two different directions. The last we saw of each other was over 10 years ago at a class reunion. We exchanged e-mail addresses then but, as often occurs, failed to follow up.

Not until this morning had I heard from him and it was a very pleasant surprise when I read his posting. Hopefully this time will be different as newer technology allows one the ability to get and stay in touch in real time. Just the other day I was contemplating canceling the Facebook account…certainly am glad I didn’t.

Here’s to old friends and new technology…

As always…I must be off.
