The Times they are a changin’

Cubans Permitted to Buy Computers

What do we really know about Raul Castro and what is his agenda? Has he sat back all these years and bit his lip or does he see what China has done and decided that is the direction Cuba should go? As Fidel’s successor he seems to be the antithesis to his older brother. Is all this just a power play or is he really trying to bring Cuba into the present? Either way it sure is interesting…and will be so for a while at least. It has always seemed a shame that the pearl of the Caribbean has been kept in the dark for so many years. While in the Navy I spent a few weeks in Gitmo for training and even though the terrain is somewhat desert like…the atmosphere there is very casual. It would be something if some day we could put Cuba on our list of places to visit. To be able to enjoy their culture and hospitality as many people from around the world have been able to. I don’t, nor have I ever agreed with their politics but that should not preclude anyone from soaking up some Caribbean atmosphere Cuban style.

Anyway, I thought this article was interesting in that the times are changing, maybe for the better, in Cuba.

Until my tickets to Havana arrive…I must be off.

Huh!?

For Exxon Mobil, $10.9 Billion Profit Disappoints

I know that I have no idea about high finance or the subtle nuances that goes with it. But after reading this article my mouth was left open and my hand was scratching my head. What a disappointment for Exxon/Mobile. The times are hard for all of us great and small it appears. Maybe I missed something or I have reached the edge of reason. I just don’t get it! I find myself being left speechless at this point. I may have to give this more studied thought. Or just forget about it…I think the latter.

Let me know what you think…I must be off.

Something else to ponder…

Americans unload prized belongings to make ends meet - Yahoo News

Before I begin…to read the story referred to here click on the link right below the header. It is the same color as the header and if you hover over it you will see it is a link. I’m not sure if this has caused any confusion but I wanted to clarify just in case. The reason for the explanation is due to watching a co-worker reading one of my previous post’s and he didn’t know what I was referring to until I told him to click the link to the story. After seeing that it occurred to me others may be having the same issue. Now that you know you may want to revisit some of the previous post’s and click the links to the story’s referenced.

As for this story…it really seems to bring home just how bad it is in some parts of the country. God has blessed this house richly in that we can still pay our bills and put gas in the car without resorting to selling anything. If however, prices continue to soar, it may be a different story. We pray for the grace needed to continue if that happens.

On the home front…our daughter-in-law is doing well and so is our son at last report. Everything is still on schedule for a June birth and a June return for our son. We pray also for all to stay on schedule.

That’ll just about do it for now…I must be off.

Another favorite interest…

Tony who? Gibbs has another franchise player in Kyle Busch

Not so much following a particular team or driver but racing as a whole. Although, the story on Busch was interesting in how he has come from zero to hero in such a short time. Like in all sports a player can excel with one team and be a liability with another. As for Kyle Busch, Becky and I have become fans of his watching him week after week and seeing how he loves to drive as loose as possible. His car going sideways as much as it goes straight. One other thing we find interesting is how the networks post his name in the running order…Ky. Busch. So, we tend to call him Kentucky Busch when watching the race.

As for racing as a whole…yesterday started for me by taking in the Spanish Grand Prix at 7:30am. Then pre-race coverage for Talladega followed by the race. Later I manged to take in most of the IRL Kansas race. In between the race viewing I managed to mow 2 yards. A full day off…now looking forward to getting back to work so I can get some rest…lol!

As always…I must be off.

The American spirit is alive…

Home Brew for the Car, Not the Beer Cup

I read this today and couldn’t help but think…I love America. If you’ve never been overseas you can’t appreciate how good we have it here. This article is proof of just one of the many things that make America great. When 2 men with seemingly nothing in common get together with a dream and determination anything can happen. History shows that before America and her can do spirit…progress was meted out by the benevolent upper class at their leisure. Never mindful of what was good for all just what was good for them and the ability to exploit the lower classes. One only needs to look at Venezuela, Argentina or Zimbabwe to see how badly things can be even today. America came along and turned mankind on it’s ear. Releasing the spirit in all of us and giving us an even playing field to pursue our dreams.

These 2 guys show that given a chance and some time American’s can overcome almost anything. Now, if we can just pray that the government doesn’t get in their way too much…we may see the birth of a whole new cottage industry.

God bless America…I must be off.
